MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT
SUBJECT: Possible Acquisition of Greenland by the United States.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff, at my request, have completed a study on this subject and I am attaching a copy for your information and whatever action you think may be appropriate.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff feel that it would be to our military advantage to acquire title to Greenland from a military viewpoint. I agree with their views in regard to this matter and feel that it may have many other long-range advantages from other than a military viewpoint, many of which we cannot fully estimate at this time.
