USAAF Basic Organization by Ryan Crierie

Organization of Echelons

Air Division: 3 to 5 Combat Wings (9 to 15 groups) – Used mainly in Europe, it seems.

Combat Wing: 3 Groups (Note, B-36 Wings had two groups) - Basic Tactical Unit.
