T-80 and T-54/T-55
Kompleks 1030M “Drozd” (“Thrush”) Active Protection System
Radar: 24.5
GHz
Threat Speed: 70 to 700 m/sec
Protected
Angle: 40 degrees
Interceptors: 8 x 3UOF14 107mm
rockets
Notes: Radar is range-gated to only see those projectiles within the threat speed band. It seems that Drozd production was small; only about 250 systems for the Soviet Navy's Naval Infantry's T-55's.
“Shater” (“Tent”) Active Protection System
Protected Angle: 200
degrees
Interceptors: 20 x Casettes
“Dikobraz” (“Porcupine”) Active Protection System
Arena Active Protection System
Total Mass: 1,100 kg
Reaction
Time: 0.07 seconds
Threat Speed: 70 to 700
m/sec
Protected Angle: 110 degrees horizontal, 15 degrees
vertical
Power Consumption: 1 kilowatt at 27 Volts
Number
of Cartridges: 22 to 26
“Drozd-2” Active Protection System
Threat Speed: 70 to 700
m/sec
Protected Angle: 120 degrees
Rockets: 10 x
3UOF14 107mm rockets
TshU-1-7 Shtora-1 EOCMDAS
System Weight: 350
kilograms
Laser Field of View (Claimed): 360 degrees
horizontal, 25 degrees vertical
EO Interference Emitters:
20 Degrees horizontal, 4 degrees vertical (0.7 to 2.7 mkm band)
EO
Emitter Power Consumption: 1 kilowatt
Smoke Grenades: 12
x 81mm 3D17 Anti-FLIR grenades (Bloom in 3 seconds, last for 20
seconds; and defeat 0.4 to 14 mkm band)
Kontakt-1 ERA
Explosive Panel: 4S20
(0.28 kg of HE)
Typical Weight: 1,200
kg
Effectiveness:
Degrades HEAT
Notes: Tanks upgraded with Kontakt are given the V suffix (“vzryvoni” - “Explosive”). NII Stali claimed that this first generation ERA would degrade enemy projectiles by up to the following amounts:
125mm missile warhead:
86%
125mm HEAT projectile: 58%
93mm LAW: 92%
Kontact-5 ERA
Explosive Panel: 4S22
(0.33 kg of HE)
System Weight: 3,000
kilograms
Effectiveness:
Degrades HEAT and KE
Claimed protection vs Sabot: 250+mm
Equivalent RHA
Claimed protection vs HEAT: 600+mm
Equivalent RHA
Composition:
15mm Hard Steel Frontal Plate
35mm
of Explosives
20mm Steel Rear Plate
Notes: Defeats Kinetic Energy Penetrators via placing large amounts of shear strength against the penetrator via the outer plate's movement, causing them to snap. Additionally, the penetrator nose is blunted via a gullotining effect that chops off the first couple centimeters of the rod. Apparently the difference in penetration for a hypervelocity rod penetrator with a blunt nose and a sharpened point is about 20-30%. Due to the requirement for each panel to be set up at the right angle for maximum protection; Kontakt-5 must be part of a comprehensive armor package; rather than as a bolt-on modernization package as was the case with Kontakt-1.
