Image Pixel Size: 1920 pixels wide or 1080 pixels high
Image Printed Size: 6.4 x 3.6" (300 DPI); 3.2 x 1.8" (600 DPI)
Image Storage Space (Lossy): 10% to 15% JPEG Compression (830 to 610 kb Color / 345 to 470 kb B&W)
Image Storage Space (Lossless): 24-bit PNG (4.6~ MB Color / 2~ MB B&W)
Primary Note: If you cannot resize the image down to 1920 pixels width without the height going below 1080 pixels; simply resize by height to 1080 pixels; and vice versa.

Secondary note: This resolution was chosen because it is not coincidentally HDTV 1080p resolution, enabling it to be easily converted to a desktop background for your monitor; and won't look horrible when you blow it up to a 10 x 10 ft screen with a HDTV projector during a lecture if you do those.

Web Presentation (Medium Quality)

Image Pixel Size: 1280 pixels wide or 720 pixels high
Image Printed Size: 4.3 x 2.4" (300 DPI); 2.3 x 1.2" (600 DPI)
Image Storage Space (Lossy): 10% to 15% JPEG Compression (400 to 300 kb Color / 170 to 230 kb B&W)
Image Storage Space (Lossless): 24-bit PNG (2~ MB Color / 940~ kb B&W)

Primary Note: If you cannot resize the image down to 1280 pixels width without the height going below 720 pixels; simply resize by height to 720 pixels; and vice versa.

Secondary note: This resolution was chosen because it is not coincidentally HDTV 720p resolution, enabling it to be shown on lower end HDTVs or projectors; like on the below $500 models of HDTVs which are proliferating.
